Gold Team continues to give back to the community

Today Gold Team performed before the Bowley Elementary School at the home of the Airborne Fort Bragg, NC. The Team conducted our Track Out Maneuver for the children during a military appreciation day at the school. Many of the children had homes damaged or destroyed in the very same area where Gold Team has been volunteering to help clean up. Recently the Team has been assisting with the clean up of many homes including the removal of trees, repairing of rooftops and even handed out food and water to those that need it.

Today’s jump allowed these children to see a different side of the military. Most of these students are used to seeing their mothers and fathers whom serve our country every day either at home or even deployed yet hardly get to actually see their parents at work. We were able to bring the excitement and thrills of today’s modern airborne paratrooper to these children’s eyes up close and personal.

After the jump the Team invited the children to learn about parachutes and the Army in a different way than they are accustomed to viewing. The children all enjoyed the question and answering portion of their time with each of the Golden Knights. Many of the students jumped into learning how to even pack the parachutes.

The overall jump was an incredible experience for Gold Team’s new guys as this is their first time of performing while landing on Fort Bragg. Where many of them have conducted normal static line Airborne jumps in their previous units. But now they were able to land at the beautiful Bowley Elementary School.

I just wanted to say how impressed I was with the Gold Team at the Beaufort Air Show this past Sunday. My son and his friend “assisted” Sgt. Sloan packing his parachute after the jump, and he hasn’t stopped talking about it since…At 8 years old, the indelible impression that was left on him is greatly appreciated by this single mom :) Sgt. Sloan’s patience and kindness demonstrated everything I try to instill in my son. Not only are these men and women serving their country as soldiers, but also as positive role models. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service!
