Tandem Team Visits GK Winter Home A Few Months Early

The Golden Knights travel to Homestead, FL every January for their annual 8-week intensive training cycle. So when we (Tandem Team) showed up to Homestead Air Reserve Base this last week to do some tandem jumps for local VIPs, all the locals were asking, “Where’s the rest of the team?”

We are pretty well-known around the base, and many familiar faces greeted us as we arrived

and got our stuff set up for the week. Even the guys at the front gate checking ID cards asked where we’d been all summer! As our HQ for the tandem camp, we used the same building that the entire team uses during winter training, and to our pleasant surprise they had made a few upgrades: some new paint, light switches, AC units, and a fridge! The best part was that we got to take over the Commander and 1SG’s office as our editing and gear room since they weren’t there!

We were so lucky with weather, even though a couple times we were right on the verge with clouds. We managed to get all the jumps off and everyone was happy. Some of the more notable passengers included NHRA Funny Car driver Matt Hagan and Mayor of South Beach George Vallejo. Among the other VIPs were Miami Dade College administrators, local law enforcement, and news anchors.

We look forward to returning to Homestead for winter training, to escape the cold of NC and to see all our friends down there!
