Happy 88th Birthday to Our 41st President George H.W. Bush

It has been an honor and privilege to have been blessed with the phenomenal opportunities sharing times with one of the “Greatest” men that has ever lived. President George H.W. Bush has been a great support and dear friend to members of the U.S. Army Parachute Team, Golden Knights for over twenty-three years.

The Command and members of the Golden Knights wish to extend a heartfelt wish of health and happiness to President Bush for his 88th  birthday . We look forward to actually celebrating his 90th birthday with him.

The Team initially jumped at President Bush’s Inauguration in 1989. He stated that he would like to make an actual parachute jump since he had to bail out of a plane during the war.

June 1942, Bush joined the United States Navy on his eighteenth birthday to become an aviator. On June 19, 1944 as a young Navy pilot during World War II, Bush had to jump out of his plane after it took enemy fire. The task force triumphed in one of the largest air battles of the war, but on his return from the mission Bush’s aircraft made a hard forced-water landing.

Chris Needles USPA President and former Golden Knight Team Commander and SFC Andy Serrano made an accelerated free fall jump with President Bush in Yuma Az. Then the team jumped with him for his 80th (41@80) birthday in College Station Texas on June 13, 2004 with Chuck Norris and Brit Humme. At 83 years young President Bush made a surprise appearance tandem jumping into the 10th Anniversary of the opening of the George H.W. Bush Library in 2007, and jumped again on his85th birthday At St. Anne’s Church at Walkers Point, Kennebunkport, Maine in 2009.

President Bush has came to Fort Bragg, to fly in the wind tunnel to train in preparation of his jumps, was guest speaker for the Golden Knight Reunion, and was monumental in support of the relocation of the Headquarters and building dedication.
