New Twin Otter set to Land at Golden Knights

 

 

 

The Golden Knights will soon be adding a new Viking Twin Otter to its aging fleet of existing 1979 de Havilland Twin Otters. Built by Viking Air in Victoria, British Columbia, at their production plant in Calgary, the new Twin Otter will offer upgraded avionics, engines, and aircraft systems.  These upgrades will improve pilot operations and increase training readiness due to its efficient maintenance program. Strength in Numbers

 

 

 

On Thursday, July 14th, 15 Golden Knights arrived in Indiana for the Gary Air Show. With three aircraft crew members and two ground safety personnel, the Gary Air Show was privileged to have 10 demonstration parachutists for each of the five scheduled performances. While this may seem like just another number to most, it actually opens up several possibilities for our traveling demonstration teams. Scheduled to be a Black Team show, our flexibility grew when 3 Gold Team Demonstrators, as well as another from our Headquarters element, opted to join the mission.

Between Performances

The American public sees the high flying, black and gold of the US Army Parachute Team during each of our performances. Whether it is displayed at an air show, football game, military event, or special appearance, we strive to bring a positive light to America’s armed forces.

The Golden Knights have many different performances, from different altitudes, with different parachutes, and in many different wind conditions. If we were to rely on our scheduled performance jumps alone, each Team member would struggle to stay current with each of these different maneuvers. This is where our highly valued, “Down-Time” between performances, comes into play.
