Members of the Golden Knights Competition Team have arrived in Rio de Janiero, Brazil and are acclimating to the local climate, a beautiful 70 degrees. The flight to Brazil and the airport and customs process were all par for the course. What followed was the typical long, traffic-laden bus ride from the airport to a temporary way point. The Golden Knights 8-way and 4-way competition teams hit the road today for Rio de Janiero, Brazil, the 26th largest city in the world and home to the 5th CISM World Games. The Parachuting Championships section of the games will take place in Resende, a smaller city in the state of Rio de Janiero. The official opening ceremonies are in just three days.

This past week wrapped up six months of intense training consisting of hours in the wind tunnel and numerous parachute jumps over the GK training drop zone in Laurinburg, NC. The training is about to pay off as both teams ride that wave straight into the first round of competition. Check back for frequent updates of the competition and the team’s time in Brazil!

The 5th Counseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) World Games is less than three weeks away. Actually, there are less than nine training days until the members of the US Army Parachute Team depart for Brazil. These Golden Knights will represent the United States in the 36th World Military Parachuting Championships, one of twenty world championships to form the World Games this year. (more…)
