Tryouts 2011: Jacket Day and Graduation

Jacket week and graduation! This past Friday we finally got our coveted Golden Knight wool jackets! Jacket day started off at 3: 30 AM. The cadre woke us up and we started a little physical training. We did a few exercises and went on a 2 mile run. After PT we got cleaned up and headed for the drop zone. We were treated to a breakfast at the Waffle house before we got to the DZ. (more…)

Tryouts Week 5: Wind Tunnel

Week 5 for GKAS has finally come to an end. For the try-outs the last five weeks of rigorous training and discipline make it seem like we have been here for an eternity. Most days seem to blend in with the rest. The cadre are keenly aware of this and with the final days approaching they are doing their very best to keep us from getting complacent. (more…)

Tryouts Week 4: Tracking

Week 4 of try-outs has finally come to an end. On the long bus ride home from the drop zone at the end of the day one can see in our faces the hard work we have put in as well as the growing optimism that the halfway point has finally been reached.

Week four brought us the best weather yet; light breezes and clear cool sunny skies. The cadre seized upon the training opportunity by getting us as many jumps as they possibly could. It began with the diamond track and moved on to mass formations. While both are demanding in their own way, the diamond track is particularly difficult. It requires a great deal of coordination between tracking partners. (more…)
